The Long Road Appeal—Bringing Specialist Care to Colac raised funds for 3 new consulting rooms and a treatment room for visiting Specialists.
The rooms are proving extremely popular and has outstripped all expectations. The number of medical consultations from July – December 2018 was almost 3,100. Of these, skin cancer checks and procedures represented almost 54%.
A range of visiting Specialists have been using the new rooms including a Paediatrician, Gynaecologist, Urologist, Neurologist and Orthopaedic surgeon. Geelong Cardiology Practice (echocardiography and pacemaker clinics) and Western Skin Institute (skin cancer checks) are both making good use of the new rooms.
It means patients no longer need to travel to Geelong or further to see these Specialists, saving time, money and often stress when the need to travel is involved.
The project was funded by bequests from the Estates of Ian Lindsay Hay and Nita and Frances McLean as well as donations from the community. The project cost was $804,000.
