Health Promotion

Health Promotion is about improving people’s control over the determinants of their health. It focuses on making population health better, before individuals become ill.

What we do

Our Health Promotion program works with communities in the places they live, learn, work and play to achieve positive health outcomes.  Our aim is to reduce health differences between population groups. This is achieved by changing attitudes, abilities, behaviours and understandings that can impact on our health.

We work in partnership with the Colac Otway Shire Council and other local, regional and state partners. We identify health priorities to achieve positive health and wellbeing outcomes.

Colac Area Heath’s Health Promotion Priority areas for 2017-2021 are:

  • Healthier Eating and Active Living
  • Tobacco Free Living
  • Preventing Violence Against Women
