The Thrive service can be accessed by any child aged from 5- 12 years of age who has experienced some form of family violence. The Thrive program offers a dedicated worker and includes services such as:
- Child and family counselling
- Coordinating care and support
- Working together with kinder, school and other services
- Referring to specialist services, for example speech therapy
Thrive hopes to:
- Build better relationships for children after family violence
- Engage with the child’s support system to ensure best outcomes for the child
- Provide a safe and caring space for healing to occur following family violence
- Be responsive to the needs of children and their families
- Provide consultation to schools and other universal services
Family Violence does not always involve physical violence. Some other types of abuse include verbal, emotional, social, financial, intimidation and stalking behaviours. Witnessing family violence can be traumatic for children and can impact on their anxiety levels, behaviour, and ability to develop friendships and concentrate at school.
